Tether from an exchange app: the withdrawal screen, step by step

Most Tether sent to a casino from a phone leaves an exchange app. This note walks through its withdrawal screen, because that is where the network is chosen.

What the withdrawal screen asks

Three things in a fixed order: the coin, the network, and the destination. The network field is often a drop-down defaulting to whichever network the exchange prefers, and the default is chosen by the exchange, not by where you are sending.

Changing the network changes the address format the screen will accept. If the pasted address is refused after you change the network, that is the app doing its job.

The minimum and the fee on the screen

The same screen shows a minimum withdrawal and a fee for the chosen network. They differ from network to network, and the fee is taken from the amount or added to it, depending on the app. Read which before confirming, because the casino will receive the amount net of it.

The memo field

Some networks add a memo field beneath the address. If the casino's cashier showed you one, copy it into the same field. If the casino showed none, leave it empty rather than inventing one.

On a short screen the field can sit below the visible area, so scroll to the end before pressing confirm.

Short answers

Why does an exchange app ask for a network?

Because the same coin exists on several ledgers and a withdrawal has to go to one of them.

Is the first network in an exchange's list the right default?

Only if the casino accepts it. The exchange does not know where you are sending.
